Introduction

I’m James Brown; a composer, instrumentalist, and poetic writer. My musical journey began in the mid-1980s with a keyboard, a drum machine, and a four-track tape recorder. With no formal training, I built melodies from instinct and emotion. Over the years, music became my way of storytelling; faith-driven, heartfelt, and shaped by experience.

My albums, Endless Summer Breeze (2010), It’s Time (2016), and Resurgent Breezes (2024), reflect decades of growth, gratitude, and creative evolution. Whether crafting instrumental wedding songs or writing Gospel lyrics inspired by spiritual moments, my compositions speak where words sometimes can’t.

Background

Originally from the Midwest and raised in Los Angeles, I grew up listening to soul and funk legends like Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, and The Temptations. Though music wasn’t my first path, it became my passion—a way to express life’s moments, challenges, and blessings.

A turning point came in the 2000s, when I reconnected with my cousin, Donny McCullough—a producer who once worked with Berry Gordy at Motown. That experience reignited my creative energy and led to the release of my first original Gospel song.

This entire CD consists of songs that are smooth jazz. They are pleasant and easy listening, perfect for the romantic evening, entertainment at parties, or just relaxing during a sunset. Each song is an original creation that is refreshing and melodic.

Resurgent Breezes

Resurgent Breezes is a mix of everything that’s shaped me; growing up on ’60s and ’70s music, living through the eras, and just making what feels right. I didn’t want to stick to one genre because honestly, I love it all; R&B, jazz, gospel, rock, pop, even a little country and classical. It’s all here, or on the way.
